Christmas Advent Calendar Activity
So a few years ago, my sister and I decided to make an Advent calendar similar to the one our mother had. So when I was trying to think of what to do this week, I thought of the calendar. As Sunday will be November 30th, we haven't started using it yet so it's perfect!
If you don't have something like this, you can easily adapt this activity to what you do have. Find ornaments, decorations, or just print pictures of different Christmas symbols. I created activities based on the 25 symbols I already had on this tree, so you may need to adjust it. Also, there's no way I'll get to all 25 in one day, so I won't be able to use every activity. If you choose only 10 or so, it will work just as well. Here's how the game works: |
Set up the Advent Calendar. Remove all the items and place them throughout the room. When the kids come in, tell them that you had the tree all set up before class, but when you came back all the presents had been taken! The GRINCH had come and taken them all! It’s now up to us to learn the true meaning of Christmas so we can get all our presents back!
Call a student to choose any number on the Advent calendar. Look at the list and tell them to go find the item that fits with that number. So, if they choose #22, then they need to go find the Dove. Explain what the meaning behind that symbol is, then do the activity that goes with it. It might be a scripture, a song, a quote, or a physical activity. Then they can place it anywhere on the calendar. See how many symbols you can get back before you run out of time!

The file below has the 25 symbols, their meanings, and the activity that goes with it. Full instructions are included as well as the quotes you will need for four of the activities.
