Heroes of the Scriptures

So I decided to teach the song Heroes in the Scriptures, which is from the Children's Friend, since I had absolutely ZERO desire to tackle Behold the Great Redeemer Die from the list! You can find the song in the official list here: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/music/library/church-magazine-music-friend?lang=eng&_r=1
This song mentioned eleven different heroes in the scripture and what they are known for. I thought this would give me a great opportunity to teach a bit about each of these heroes and what they did as we learned the song. So...first I wanted to use the Lip Sync prophets found on Camille's Primary Ideas. http://www.camillesprimaryideas.com/2014/08/lip-sync-review.html. The problem is that although there is artwork for almost all eleven prophets, there were quite a few she didn't have. Being somewhat of an artist but not great at digital art, I decided to tackle this anyway, using Photoshop to create five more characters - Moses, Sariah, Ruth, Daniel, and Ammon. (I have to say, I am PARTICULARLY fond of the Moses I made...totally Charelton Heston, man.)
From the prophets on Camille's website, I used all of them except Samuel the Lamanite and Joseph. But I used her Nephi as Alma.
Next, I made little signs that stood for what each of the prophets were known for--Alma's chnage of heart, Ruth's faithfulness, etc. Finally, I made signs to go around the necks of each child that stated who they were.
Now...I have an awesome color printer so I can just print a lot from home. If you don't, then really the only thing you need to print are the prophet faces (I like to laminate mine too, after I've cut the mouth out, and then I cut the mouth out again through the laminate.) The name signs can be easily made with regular paper and ink, and the qualities of the prophets can be written on the board. But I've included the files for all of it below.
So, when ready to teach it, there are lots of ways to do it. I would give the quality of the prophet: "This prophet is known for being obedient to a really, really hard thing the Lord asked him to do...with a boat...and not in the Book of Mormon...and there were animals..." until someone gets it. Then we learn that line of the song. Some of the qualities have two prophets--like Esther and Ammon are both given the power of courage. We just went through the song like that, and learned all three verses in one day, though not very well. We'll continue to review.
You can find ALL the files here in the ZIP file. Or you can download them individually below.

2024 - I needed these for a nursery lesson today, and found that the website where I got the others makes it really hard to download anything! So I made a Nephi version just for my lesson, and a Russel M. Nelson. Thought I'd add it here. It's not part of this particular song, but it's good to have another prophet if you use these for a different activity.
