If I Listen with My Heart
This is a tough song. It's three verses long and though it has a really beautiful melody, the words can be a bit difficult to remember. I looked at a few ideas online for how to teach this and combined them into this. I thought about making a stain-glassed window and how I could use that...and then when I looked at a couple sites I saw I wasn't the first think of it. So, taking ideas from Camille's Primary Ideas and teachldschildren.com, I came up with this:
So I created a window for each of the three verses, with the chorus being the colored part at the bottom. Each window has a different pattern. After they've learned the song, it would be fun to mix them all up and the kids have to figure out where they go--like actual puzzles! We haven't gotten that far yet, though. We just learned the verses today, and I added a few words here and there to remind the kids (and lets be honest...me) what the verse is. But the reminder is really helpful.
So I've made this available to download below in several forms. You can download it individually, or download the ZIP file that has both.
1) Large - If you want the bigger ones as pictured, you will need to print to 12 pages of white cardstock, then cut it out.
2) Small - This one is just four pages. It has each of the windows on an 8 1/2 x 11 pages, which you can then cut the pieces out. But the bottom part, the chorus, is on it's own page so you can add that at the bottom to make the whole thing slightly bigger than an 8 1/2 x 11 page. I'd do it that way if you are really limited with color printing--though this would still probably work in black and white as well.
