Doughnut Review Game
This week I knew I had to do a major review--we've learned a lot of new songs but some of them we haven't sung for weeks or even months. I wanted to review the six songs I have so far chosen for the primary program. I decided to use my donuts! Its only been a few weeks since we used them but the kids loved them and when I used them last I only had forty and now I have sixty (since I just kept making them and couldn't stop...I'm kinda lame that way.)
But this activity is really versatile and could be used in a lot of ways. All you really need is things the kids can pick that are numbered, and then a corresponding list for each number. So for me, I will put the donuts on the board with ticky tack and the kids can come choose a donut. On the back, each donut is numbered (I like it this way because then I can still use the donuts for lots of other things.) I have a list of 60 things. So if they pick #49, I just look that one up on my list. In the list of sixty things are activities, verses to the songs we are learning, other songs to sing, etc. If I want to make sure that they pick the songs we are studying, I can make sure those numbers line up with the donuts they are most likely to pick.
You can download the file I created here below, and then update it however you choose with less items, different songs, and if you want to adjust the activities to fit your personality and the culture of your own primary. (For example, #56 says to speak in Turkey Talk, which is a stupid language I learned in 3rd grade that is easy to learn. You could change that to pig latin or something.)
It went really well in class. My only issue was that I had TOO many things. I'd use less of doughnuts and have more songs and less activities. It felt like we didn't sing enough! The file below is a Word file so you can easily edit it to fit your needs.
